Paolo Melchiorre is a Professor of Chemistry at the University of Bologna (UNIBO). He obtained his PhD from UNIBO in 2003, followed by research stays with Karl Anker Jørgensen (Denmark) and Giuseppe Bartoli (Italy). After serving as an Assistant Professor at UNIBO, he joined the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia ( ICIQ, Tarragona - Spain) as an ICREA Professor and Group Leader in 2009, before returning to Bologna in 2022.
His research focuses on innovative catalytic strategies, particularly in photochemistry and asymmetric catalysis. He has received multiple ERC grants, including the 2024 Advanced Grant (PHOTOZYME), and different awards, such as the Pedler Award (2021) and the Premio Linceo for Chemistry (2024).
An Associate Editor of Chemical Science since 2019 and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC), Paolo has authored over 150 publications with 21,500+ citations and delivered 350+ invited lectures worldwide.
