Jean-François Le Gall is a Professor at University Paris-Sud and a member of the mathematical section of the French Academy of sciences. His research interests lie in probability theory, and more precisely in Brownian motion, random trees, random geometry and their connections with other fields of mathematics such as combinatorics and partial differential equations. He has written more than 100 research papers as well as several books, and he served as the editor in chief of two major probability journals. He has been awarded several major international prizes, including the 1998 Loeve Prize and the 2005 Fermat Prize, and he also received the Silver Medal of CNRS in 2009. Among numerous prestigious invitations, he delivered a plenary lecture at the 2014 International Congres of Mathematicians in Seoul.
