Professor Dingfang Chen is an expert who has been engaging in fields of Mechanical Engineering, Smart materials and Structure, Computer Science and Engineering, in which he has made numerous important breakthroughs. For more than 40 years, he has conducted innovative works in CAD/CAM, expert system, network-based design, virtual manufacturing, intelligent manufacturing, and completed more than 30 scientific research projects, for which he has received 40 scientific and technological awards.
Prof. Chen is the recipient of the "National Young and Middle-aged Expert with Outstanding Contributions" since 1984 by the Ministry of Personnel of the People's Republic of China.
It is commendable that Professor Chen Dingfang has trained 6 postdoctoral fellows, 56 doctoral students, over 200 master's students, and a group of outstanding university students.
Professor Dingfang Chen has devoted himself to cultivating a group of outstanding students who have served in universities and industries in Europe and the United States, including the University of Bath in the United Kingdom, King's College London, Swansea University, the University of Edinburgh, Loughborough University, the Iberian International Institute of Nanotechnology in Europe, the Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research in Germany, and the Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden. These young leaders have played a significant and positive role in China-EU scientific and technological cooperation and exchanges.
