Prof. Almut Arneth is Professor for Plant-Atmosphere Interactions and also Head of the Ecosystem-Atmosphere Exchanges Division at KIT, Department Atmospheric Environmental Research. Her research focusses on global scale modelling of the interactions between climate change, land-use change, and various terrestrial ecosystem properties, using Dynamic Global Vegetation models. She also engages in developing coupled socio-ecological modelling systems of the land-sector to explore feedbacks between human demands for land-based resources, ecosystem dynamics, and human decision making. She was a Coordinating Lead Author in the Global Assessment of the IPBES (Int. Science-Policy Platform for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services), on the chapter 4 “Future scenarios and projections”, and Coordinating Lead Author of the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) Special Report on land and climate change (chapter 1 “setting the scene”). Recently she has acted as a Lead Author in the IPCC 6th Assessment report (WG2, chapter on Terrestrial and Freshwater Ecosystems), and is now a Lead Author in the IPBES Assessment on the Nexus of Biodiversity, Food, Water & Health. She has published more than 250 paper in peer-reviewed journals, and has been listed Highly Cited Researcher (Environment and Ecology) for several consecutive years. She is a recipient of the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Price 2022.
