Annual Symposium & Ceremony 2025 – CERN, Geneva

The European Academy of Sciences (EurASc) is honored to announce that the Annual Symposium & Ceremony 2025 will take place at CERN, the world’s leading center for particle physics, in Geneva, Switzerland, on December 17-18, 2025. This year’s symposium coincides with CERN’s 70th anniversary, adding an extraordinary dimension to this prestigious event.

CERN is renowned for its groundbreaking contributions to fundamental research, including the discovery of the W and Z bosons, the Higgs boson, and the invention of the World Wide Web. Beyond fundamental science, CERN’s advancements in particle accelerators and detectors have led to transformative applications in medical diagnostics, quantum computing, and materials science.

The symposium, under the theme “Frontiers of Knowledge for a Sustainable Future”, will feature cutting-edge discussions, keynote speeches by leading scientists, and the presentation of the Blaise Pascal Medals and the Leonardo da Vinci Award to outstanding contributors in science and technology. The symposium will be co-chaired by Prof. Paul Lecoq and Prof. Chiara Mariotti, distinguished Members of EurASc and leaders in the field of particle physics.

CERN Science Gateway will serve as an inspiring venue for scientific dialogue and exploration. EurASc Fellows will have the unique opportunity to stay in CERN’s internal hostel, located just 20 minutes from the Geneva city center.

CERN Director-General Prof. Fabiola Gianotti has expressed enthusiasm for hosting this landmark event and welcoming the EurASc community to the forefront of scientific discovery and innovation.

Inaugural Meeting of Responsive Materials

Inaugural Meeting of Responsive Materials

Professor Rodrigo Martins, President of the European Academy of Sciences will be present in the inaugural meeting that takes place in the Southeast University, Nanjing, China, on 21st July 2023. Professor Martins will also integrate the editorial board that accounts with reputed scientists such as Professor Jean-Marie Lehn, University of Strasbourg, Strasbourg, France, professor Mark MacLachlan, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, (https://www.chem.ubc.ca/mark-maclachlan) and professor John A Rogers, Northwestern University, Evanston, USA, (https://rogersgroup.northwestern.edu/index.php)

Intelligent responsive materials have emerged as a crucial direction in the development of modern high-tech materials, supporting the advancement of future cutting-edge technologies. Responsive Materials, a journal jointly founded by Southeast University and Wiley Press, focuses on various stimuli-responsive functional materials and addresses globally challenging scientific topics in the fields of chemistry, materials science and engineering, energy, environment, medicine, intelligent living, and other emerging areas.

The “International Advanced Materials Symposium (IAMS) and Inaugural Meeting of Responsive Materials is scheduled to be held from 21st to 25th, July, 2023, in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, China. The symposium aims to strengthen global collaborations in the field of intelligent responsive materials, promoting academic and technological advancements in this exciting area.

ABOUT MADRID

Madrid is the capital of Spain, and is home to the Spanish Royal family as well as the Spanish Government. It is a modern metropolitan city and an economical and industrial center of Spain, and, with its population of nearly 3,5 million people, is also the biggest city in Spain.

It is located in the centre of the Iberian Peninsula, and is surrounded by mountains and natural parks. Although it is located in the centre of the country, it has traditionally been the hub between different areas of Spain and is therefore connected to all major Spanish cities by train, road or air.

The weather in Madrid varies a lot depending on the season, from hot and dry in the summer, with temperature of approx. 29C-¦ / 85F-¦, to cold (4C-¦ / 39F-¦) and with some rain in the winter.

Attractions

Madrid has a lot of interesting attractions that offer both culture and amusement.
The city is full of great monuments, like the royal palace, the Plaza Mayor or the many statuettes, and for people interested in art, the museums Del Prado, Reina Sofia or Thyssen have some of the most fantastic collections of famous Spanish painters like Velazquez, Goya, Picasso or Miro.

If you like to be entertained, Madrid has two big amusements parks (including the new Warner Bros park) and there are regular international concerts, big flea markets, parades and other activities going on.

To sport enthusiasts Madrid can offer everything from skiing (only 1 hour away by bus) during the winter, to golf all year round, as well as international sporting events and the possibility to practice nearly any sport at the University facilities.

If you like going out at night, Madrid has a very interesting nightlife throughout the whole week and which is available all year round. You can either go out for a tapa (Spanish snack), eat at a very nice restaurant, go to the cinema or one of the many theatres, or find nearly any type of bar or disco.

EurASc Ceremony 2022

EurASc Ceremony 2022

It was on October 24th and 25th of this year that we saw the first major EurASc post-pandemic event take place at the Fondation Universitaire Stichting in Brussels.

Find the Program >> HERE<<

It was with great pleasure and honor that we received our fellows in this great ceremony, which had the premise of handing out the Leonardo da Vinci and Blaise Pascal Medal 2020 and 2021 awards, and followed with due emphasis the 2022 Awards to its winners, having the opportunity to hear them speak with passion about the work they do. We also had presentations from all Head’s of Division about the Future of Science – EurASc’s vision, where we could deepen our knowledge of the work done by the members as well as their future plans for the performance of each division. The ceremony came to an end on the afternoon of the 25th with the presentation of diplomas to the new fellows.

We also had the honour of having the interventions of Professor Maria Leptin – President of the European Research Council – ERC on The Importance of Frontier Research, followed by Professor Maria Graça Carvalho – Member of the European Parliament on EU Research and Innovation Policies and we also had Dr. Francesco Matteucci – Programme Manager of the European Innovation Council – EIC, as special guests, who gave us interesting interventions followed by a debate.
