3rd CAS-EurASc Frontier Forum on Marine Science and Technology

The European Academy of Sciences (EurASc) and the Earth Sciences Division of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) are pleased to announce the 3rd CAS-EurASc Frontier Forum on Marine Science and Technology. This event will be held online on November 18-19, 2024, from 8:30 to 14:30 (CEST), facilitating collaboration across time zones between China and Europe.

The Forum serves as a valuable platform for marine scientists and engineers from both regions to share cutting-edge research, exchange knowledge, and promote international collaboration. Following successful previous editions in October 2020 and September 2022, this year’s Forum continues the tradition of focusing on interdisciplinary research and advances in marine science and technology. Co-chaired by Professors Paul Tréguer (University of Brest, France) and Jing Zhang (East China Normal University / Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China), the event will be open to the general public, offering access to top-tier insights from leading researchers.

Key Themes and Sessions:
The Forum will feature four main themes, with each session dedicated to a priority area in marine science:

  • Session 1: Artificial Intelligence and Twin Oceans
Chaired by Pierre Tandeo (IMT Atlantique, France) and Yang Du (SCSIO-CAS, China).

  • Session 2: Ocean Ecosystems and the Carbon Cycle
Chaired by Yuntao Zhou (Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China) and Louis Legendre (Sorbonne University, France).

  • Session 3: Coastal Oceans and Sustainability of Society
Chaired by Qing He (CAS, China) and Anny Cazenave (CNES, France).

  • Session 4: Ocean Technology and Observations
Chaired by Xinyuan Dia (Institute of Oceanology, CAS, China) and Hervé Claustre (IMEV-CNRS, France).

Through interactive discussions and expert presentations, participants will explore priority areas for international collaboration and outline a research agenda to drive future progress in oceanography. This year’s Forum emphasizes multidisciplinary approaches, covering a wide range of topics from ocean ecosystems to advancements in ocean technology.
